What You Should Know About California Solar Installers

What You Should Know About California Solar Installers

Article by Razcaz Lompe

So I’m retired now, and that i have decided you’re ready to go solar. Exactly what does one thing have to do with another, well, If only I’d something more noble to express but really I just want to save cash on my small utility bill, I wish to increase the value of my home, and that i have plenty of time on my small hands now to actually get it take action. Fortunately in everyday life I have learned how to maintain a position in which I’m able to be a picky about what I want and usually have it (usually). With regards to installing solar panels I had no idea things i was getting myself into, so I had to buckle down and do your homework and pray that would find a solar company that could meet all of my demands. I wanted the very best technology placed on the house, I needed so that it is produced by an in-depth pocketed reputable company in the U.S.A, and I wanted a long term warranty.

Originally from New York, I relocated to Tucson about 12 years back to flee the cold temperature. People complain, we get a yearly average 300 plus sunny days here, but no matter how hot it gets, I would take each and everyone of them over one bone chilling Ny day. Not to mention that instead I sold a shoebox sized condo coupled with ample money to buy my 24,000 square foot 4 bedroom home is located in a basic suburban neighborhood. There are a lot of old people much like me living around here, I meet each week with a group of ladies at the neighborhood club house and play cards. Janet, one of the gals, has solar panels on her behalf house. She said her electricity bill for the entire year was .80. I wasn’t certain basically believed her, but she sparked my interest, and so i chose to do some research.

I used Google to find information online about solar manufactures within the U.S., Kyocera, BP Solar, Evergreen Solar, Sunwize, and Solar World are the companies that claim to be U.S. companies, although not all are really American, and most of them don’t manufacture their parts within the U.S. they place them here. Evergreen was the only real actual American owned company. They manufacture all their parts and the entire panel in the U.S. – but after making .5 million in the second quarter of 2010, they are setting up shop in China in order to make more profits. (I wonder what money they need to make in order to keep creating green jobs in the U.S. and stop giving jobs to people who are instructed to work in miserable conditions for peanuts).

The last company I called was Solar World. I spoken with a really bright and pleasant man named Pete DeNapoli for more than Half an hour. Pete has worked with solar world for more than Two-and-a-half decades and that he provided the complete history of Solar panel technology, an update on the current state of the solar economy, and that he told me more details about his product than I could ever remember in a single sitting. I actually do remember Solar World continues to be making solar panel technology in the U.S. for 33 many they grow all their materials and manufacture the entire solar power right here in the U.S.. Solar World boast about their 25 year linear warranty, Pete claims is the greatest in the market because they guarantee that the actual power of a new module cannot deviate in the specified rated power by more than 3% throughout the first year; and afterward, the ability won’t decrease by more than 0.7 percent from the rated power per year. So at year 10, capacity is certain to attend least 90% from the nameplate instead of the industry standard guarantee of 80% (I took notes during our talk). Based on a completely independent test conducted by the German company Photo International Module Test, Evergreen, Kyocera, BP Solar, and Solar World were compared for quality inside a multi-year energy output test, and Solar World won. Although I was leaning towards Solar World I still had one concern, every company I researched claimed to achieve the best technology, and I knew that certain of these needed to be much better than the other.

I made a decision to go to my trusty source for all things true and factual, Wikipedia to discover for good who the best solar clients are. “The market leader in solar panel efficiency (measured by energy conversion ratio) isSunPower aSan Jose (California) based company. Sunpower’s cells have a conversion ratio of 24.2%, well over the market average of 12-18%.” The only other solar power panels which are more efficient aren’t yet manufactured for residential use.

I was curious; why didn’t the 3rd party websites I’d reviewed for information about competing solar companies mention SunPower? Naturally I’d to research further. Arrived at find out, SunPower is dominating the solar panel technology world simply because they have a great technology and their design is patented, which keeps the other companies from having the ability to compete with them. Their panels are up to 50% more efficient. It made sense the solar industry would be put off by promoting SunPower because SunPower comes with an upper hand on all the other companies up to now. SunPower an united states owned solar manufacturer having a 25 year warranty, deep pockets, and superior technology still had one down side; it’s more costly than Solar World.

Oh how I like to save $ 1! I hate to harp on my small age, but saving a dollar is one of the last joys that I have left. However, the highest technology factor would be a real feature too because my daughter will inherit home and that i want to make sure that any addition I invest in will add long-lasting value. Now’s decision time for me personally. Both Solar World and SunPower offered me almost everything which i want, so I set up a conference with their installers. I will ask them to walk me through their procedures after which I will select a company to choose, because after all the study it sometimes just comes down to looking them within the eye and going together with your gut.

Home Wind Turbines – Facts You Should Know

Home Wind Turbines – Facts You Should Know

Article by Charlie D

Home wind turbines are not really among the things that people would normally consider when buying renewable power systems for their homes. One of the reasons behind this is their lack of knowledge about these small wind systems that are ideal for home use. Since the most obvious alternative energy source is the sun, most people will surely look for solar panels to put up on their roofs. Although there is nothing wrong with using solar power, you should consider the power of the wind too. Even if you live in suburban areas, there is still a way for you to harness wind power using small wind systems.

The first thing that many people ask about home wind turbines is how they work. In essence, a turbine, which is placed on top of a tower, collects energy from the wind and turns it to usable electricity. In residences that are not located in remote areas, it is still necessary to get the services of your local utility company because the energy generated by the turbines will not be enough. It is also worth noting that the speed of the wind can greatly affect the electric output of your home wind system. If the wind speed is lower than 7 miles per hour, you should not expect any output from your turbine. However, if you are able to generate more electricity than what you need, your local energy company can purchase the excess power from you.

Another concern for homeowners is how much money is saved when they use home wind turbines. According to studies, a small wind system can actually cut your bill by as much as 50 to 90 percent. Some people even claim that after successfully installing a wind system in their homes, they only pay to dollars in monthly electricity bill for more than two-thirds of any given year.

However, you should understand that the size of your home wind turbine will greatly affect the amount of money you will save. The higher the output of the small wind turbine, the more significant the impact will be on your electric bill. It would be a good idea to use several small wind turbines in order to generate enough usable electricity. The most common turbines available in the market have 600, 800, 1,000 or 3,000 output watts.

Before you buy home wind turbines, there are some things that you need to consider. First, you have to determine local laws on installing small wind systems in your city or locality. You do not want to end up buying a wind turbine only to realize later on that you cannot use it at home. Furthermore, you also need to choose a home wind turbine that is suitable to the size of your home and the size of your property. Furthermore, you also need to look for an online store that will not only provide you with quality small wind turbines but will give you value for your money as well. Should You Pay For Home Solar Panels Or Get Them Free?

Should You Pay For Home Solar Panels Or Get Them Free?

Article by Solar Panels Direct

It can be very tempting when faced with having to find a substantial amount of cash to install panels to take up the special deals many installers offer for free. There’s no doubt free panels are a very attractive offer, and for some people it the only way they could afford solar panels.  However, before taking the plunge and phoning up your local ‘free’ installer, here are a few things to consider.

Free systems – advantages

1. You don’t have to pay for anythingThe installer pays for the costs of the panels and associated equipment and fits the whole systems for free.

2. You get free electricityThis will help you cut your electric bill down by up to £180 a year, perhaps even more if you are regularly at home during the day and prices rise significantly over the years to come.

3. No maintenance costsThe installer will check the panels regularly and make sure they function at the maximum possible efficiency. They may even pay for the insurance on them.

4. Buy the panels laterMany free solar panels installers allow you to buy out the panels at a later date (often half way through your agreement term), so you can eventually own them outright and benefit in full from having them.

5. Reduce your carbon footprint and be greenerThere’s no doubt generating your own electricity without having to use your own money is a very ecologically friendly thing to do.

Free systems – disadvantages

1. Your installer keeps the Feed-In Tariff  paymentsThis can be a substantial wad of cash, and with the recent changes to the payment tariff can add up to around £550 a year.

2. You may have to find a lot of cash for a buy-outSome installers set their prices deliberately high making it hard to afford to buy the solar panels, and this may only be an option if you do not intend to move for many years.

3. If could affect the value of your homeSome potential buyers may not like buying a property if they don’t own the system outright and have to deal with what they perceive may be problems with the agreement and the installer in the future.

4. Roof repairs will cost more than you thinkIf you have to have any work done to your roof that requires the panels to come down (for example re-tiling), your installer may insist you have to cover the feed-in tariff payments they are losing due to the panels not functioning.

5. Free systems are not that economical if you’re not homeThe maximum amount of free electricity is produced during the day, so if you work long hours you may only get the benefit of the free electricity at the weekends.

6. You may want them, they may not want youMost free solar panel installers require you to have a certain size roof space at the right angle to the sun, so if you don’t have that, they won’t fit a free system.

7. It’s a long-term commitmentMost contracts run for 20-25 years so it’s a large commitment to have a free system fitted and it could prevent you from developing your property further, such as a loft conversion.

With the recent government changes the number of installers offering these schemes has decreased, especially with some of the national companies. However, there are still good local companies willing to still offer free solar panel deals.

What You Should Know About Solar Rebates

What You Should Know About Solar Rebates

Article by Meg Smith

In Australia the scheme of solar rebates for installing photovoltaic panels is now closed. Any homeowner who was not able to apply for the rebate before 9th June 2009 must now apply for what is known as solar credits, rather than a rebate.

These solar credits are in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) administered by the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme and effectively replace the solar rebate scheme. How this works out in practice is that the installers usually offer you a discount in return for the Solar Credits you get from the RET scheme.

So how many Solar Credit Certificates will you be eligible for? It all depends on what size your system is. The bigger the system, the more power it will generate and the more RECs you will get. Solar systems start at 1 kW and go up to 3kW with 5kW increases. For the smallest (1kW) system you will be given 103 RECs. These will be worth about ,090. For the largest (3kW) system you will be eligible for 185 RECS worth around ,550.

However, there is another variable that depends on the climate. For a climate such as Brisbane where most of the days are hot and sunny, more power will be generated, therefore more RECs will be given. In a southern climate where there are more cold and cloudy days less power will be generated by the same size system, so fewer RECs will be given.

How can you access these RECs? Usually you transfer the right to collect them to the installer of your solar panels. In return, they give you a discount to the value of your solar credits. This is the easiest way. But you can forego the discount and apply for the RECs yourself – although application is usually done through an agent. You must apply for the RECS to the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER). This must be done within 12 months of installation.

How Much Should Solar Panels Cost?

How Much Should Solar Panels Cost?

Article by Vicky

This is a more complex question than you might imagine. Upfront, the solar panels cost is fairly large. In the U.S. it is estimated that it costs $ 30,000-,000 for a single family home to go completely solar.

That means to replace their grid-based energy with solar power. So, at first glance that might seem like way too big an investment for the average household. In fact, if all that’s looked at is the price tag of installing panels, it’s probably safe to say that most of us would not even be interested in spending that much. If you are considering how much solar panels cost in any serious sort of way, you have to educate yourself in the matter, so you can look beyond the initial investment. First off, in many places there are some terrific rebates and incentives that lower your out-of-pocket investment for the initial installation of solar panels. Of course, this does depend on where in the world you live. Not every country offers these rebates, tax breaks and incentives. In the US those incentives can replace solar panels cost up to 80% of your out of pocket costs, depending on the state and county you live in.

The next saving to look at is the obvious, what you save in paying for electricity every year. That saving can seriously add up. Through these savings your PV panels will save for themselves. Depending on how much electricity your solar panels end up producing, you may even end up being able to sell it back to your city and make a profit on it.

Then there is the value that solar panels cost adds to your home’s resale value. Again, this depends on where in the world you live, but solar PV panels can add substantial value to your home. And, there is the personal value, knowing you have power, even if the grid is down, and knowing you have reduced your carbon footprint.

Alternate Energy Should Be Developed

Alternate Energy Should Be Developed

Article by Frank Vanderlugt

Oil prices are skyrocketing and it affects more than just your price at the pump. Utility companies are increasing their prices and the cost of batteries is always high, but there’s no way to live in the modern world and enjoy modern amenities without relying on a utility company or batteries to power the electronics which are so integral to our lives. Right?

Wrong! There are many forms of alternate energy sources that could not only save you thousands of dollars annually, but will help decrease pollution and its negative effects on our environment.

Most utility plants are coal-burning and even the “clean coal” produces some smog. The clean energy-producing nuclear power plants are few and far between and even they present the problem of possible nuclear meltdown and of how to dispose of toxic waste.

Alternative energy sources eradicate these pollution problems. Why, then, do traditional utility plants still exist? There are groups dedicated to the widespread promotion of alternative energy sources, but it is difficult for a culture so dependant on oil to change, especially when alternative energy sources require special arrangements and can sometimes have problems meeting the energy needs of thousands of homes and businesses all at once.

You can make a difference in your own home or business, though, by changing your individual energy source to an alternative energy option. Solar power, for example, is an alternative energy source frequently used in lieu of batteries to run accessories like flashlights or the electrical needs of an RV, but it also can produce enough power to power entire homes and businesses.

The solar cells on the panels convert sunlight photons into electrical energy and that energy is sent to an inverter, which converts the alternative energy into useable electricity. Excess energy not used immediately is stored for later use at night or on cloudy days. By installing solar power panels on the roof of or on the ground near your home or business, you can enjoy pollution-free, no-cost energy–after an initial installation fee, which could cost you between ,000-100,000, depending on the size and energy needs of your building.

Hydropower, another pollution-free, no-cost alternative energy source, is more often used to power large buildings or entire towns, but if you have the appropriate environment, you may want to look into it–or you could even build the environment! Hydropower is an alternative energy source that uses the force of water moving downward–most often in waterfalls–to turn turbines that generate electrical energy.

Wind power is another popular source of alternative energy. If you live in an area with adequate wind, you can build a tall structure that’s similar to a giant fan on your property. This fan is an electrical generator powered by the wind, and similarly to other alternative energy sources, excess energy is stored for use when the wind is not strong.

There are quite a few alternative energy sources that are still undergoing testing, but you can do your part to help the environment today! Yes, converting to alternative energy sources can be expensive at first, but they are all virtually free to run after installation. Plus, without utility bills, you will more than make back your money over time. If you’re not ready to spend the money, look for alternative energy for accessories like flashlights!

Ready to install an alternate energy source in your home, business, or RV? Want to buy alternate energy-powered accessories? Eager to help spread the word about the benefits of alternate energy? Visit the Alternate Energy Resource Network at alternate-energy.net.

Water Heater Price: How Much Should You Pay?

Water Heater Price: How Much Should You Pay?

Article by Ann Triune

What is a reasonable water heater price? This isn’t so easy to answer. Different units and models have large differences in their prices. Should you just base your decision on the price alone? Are there other factors besides the price that you should consider? Here are some tips for you to follow to find the best deals.

Read Reviews

Before anything else, you should read about water heaters first. Your objective would be not to become a heater expert but to at least get some basic information about heaters. Otherwise, nothing about heater specifications in various sites will make sense to you. Once you know a bit about heaters, your next step would be to go to review sites.

There are many different review sites. The ones you should check are the well-known independent review sites. Depending on the site you are on, you can get some information about various costs per model, installation costs and product reviews. These review sites are actually one stop sites where you can compare the prices and features. You can also benefit from various reviews from experts, amateurs and average consumers like you.

Consider Cost of Operation

There is more to a water heater price than the purchase cost. You may not know that a seemingly cheap heater may actually cost more in the long run. This is because it may cost a lot to operate it. You end up spending more than what you saved when you bought it. If you want to have long term savings on cost, then look for a unit with a high energy factor. This is found on the energy guide or label found on the unit. A high energy factor of around 0.8-2 would mean that the unit is efficient in using energy. This means less energy waste and cost for you.

Consider the Type

The oldest heater model is the tank type. You can now buy these for as low as 0. More expensive models are the tankless, heat pump and solar. The prices of these can range from 0 to over a thousand dollars. The more expensive ones however are usually the most energy efficient and can help you save in operational costs

One reason why tank types cost more to operate is because of standby losses. The tanks of tank type heaters are always filled with water. The water is kept warm even when it isn’t used. Hot water that just sits in a tank results in energy loss which eventually translates to higher energy bills for you. The tankless type eliminates this problem by providing warm water only when you need it.

Conserve Energy

You may not be able to afford a more energy efficient heater model at this time. You can however still shave off a few dollars off your operational cost. You may for example install aerators and tank and pipe insulation. These will reduce the heat that is lost in the process of operating a tank-type heater. Aside from helping you limit costs, you are also conserving energy.

Finding the right water heater price may be a bit tricky. The real key is to learn more about how heaters work and use energy. Never pick a heater based on price alone.
